Hurt people hurt people, and when your mother dies by her own hand, you have many questions.
As I've grown older, I find myself more able to empathize with and forgive her, but only after acknowledging the hurt done to me. And only then have I learned to forgive and empathize with myself.
lyrics
Stories and tales of people and places long gone
Haunt me now like a distant song
And you, woman, you- were you hurting more than I even knew?
The discovery of secret wounds like fault lines beneath our feet
Erupting slowly on a long forgotten street
You always liked to say to me, "To Thine own self be true,"
So tell me true, woman, you-- were you hurting more than I even knew?
Should I believe the saying though the sentiment is tired:
You die by what you live by, you reap the crop you sired
Can I justify the hurt done in a life long expired?
Could I believe the truth from the mouth of a liar?
Every single bridge you torched, every little lie
As numerous they seem now, as stars up in the sky
Why did you do what you did, did you think that it was right?
Did you even stop to think at all?
Was this your plan and did you know,
that only in decay does the young branch grow?
I was hurting more than you could even bear to see
And you, you hurt too, you hurt me
You, woman, you--
You hurt me more than I even knew
