God of wrath, God the father Punish me not for the sins of the mother In thy image did you make me Now unbind me from thy blind fury O deliver me unto green pastures Far far from thy watchful eye Far far from thy wretched covenant, I Have tasted of the tree of knowledge and it is sweet God of Grace, God Almighty My cup runneth over in thy blessings aplenty Gentle shepherd, where do you lead me? Is it muzzled leather or a gilded teather? Like a satellite in your orbit I was yours to praise or torment But the seed in the garden dormant, always bursts forth towards the sun O freedom isn't free when withheld consciously But I'll find that knowledge tree so sweet A mighty fortress was your love until a prison it became I'll let my hair down and from above, never more speak of thy name

about

I discovered some long lost momentary and referential recordings on my phone- each one had a date and a presence, like a journal entry.
I decided to compile the collection of raw sounds, half-completed songs or piano scapes into an auditory sketchbook, in order to celebrate the oft mysticized songwriting process.
Many of the recordings I'm alone in the car (waiting for a train), alone in a practice room, shifting on the squeaky bench. I have a fondness for music boxes- two were from my childhood and I wanted to record their songs so I could let the boxes go on to a new home.
I considered doing something more sound-collage-y with them, but it didn't feel right to over process or edit these very special moments.
I hope this album serves as a celebration of the beautiful vulnerability and solitude of art creation. I sometimes fear I will die before I complete or record something that's important to me (such as the piano concerto or the Rhapsody of Love), and giving it space here feels like planting seeds.
